Darrell Lavin
Darrell was born and raised in Castro Valley. He played baseball at Castro Valley High School where he was named 1981 HAAL Athlete of the Year after finishing the season with a 0.83 ERA. He then played at UCSB where he met both Coach Bob Ferraro and Erik Johnson. When an arm injury ended his pitching career, Darrell started working with the UCSB athletic training staff where he cared for athletes in all sports. After graduating from UCSB with a degree in Biological Sciences, he attended Life Chiropractic College West in San Lorenzo, CA, earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. During his time in chiropractic college he started coaching the Castro Valley High School Baseball team, helping to lead the team to the 1987 NCS Championship. Lavin returned to coaching this past year as an assistant coach, helping to coach the Castro Valley High School team to the 2011 HAAL League Championship.
After 21 years in a private chiropractic practice in Castro Valley, Darrell is currently transitioning into a career in education where he will be a high school science teacher. He is currently student teaching at Amador Valley High School where he is teaching anatomy and biology.
